Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Honey Bear Campground?

We are conveniently located 3 miles from downtown Boone and Appalachian State University at 229 Honey Bear Campground Road, Boone NC.

What sort of amenities are available at the campground?

We are proud to offer our guests the following amenities:

Complimentary wifi at select sites, coffee shop, dog park, ice and firewood delivery, fishing pond, swings and sprinkler for kids, and outdoor games and movie nights on weekends. Note that we no longer offer cable.

Why isn’t there cable, and when do you plan on restoring cable service?

We do not intend to restore our cable service in the future, as it is unreliable and expensive.

Is the wifi reliable and will it reach my campsite?

Wifi is free and not included in your nightly rate. It is not guaranteed at all campsites; however, you are welcome to use our full-service coffee shop during operating hours, where the wifi is strongest.

When is the coffee shop open?

The coffee shop opens early at 8am Saturdays and Sundays, and will be open during our regular office hours.

Do you offer discounts such as Good Sam or AAA?

We only offer a 10% military discount, available with valid military ID.

Do you offer deals for large groups booking multiple sites?

Please call our office to ask about group discounts.

Can I bring my dog or cat to the campground?

Pets are permitted as long as they are accompanied and leashed. You may NOT leave your dog unattended at your campsite. See our Policies page for information on acceptable breeds, or call ahead if you have questions.

What sort of events does the campground host?

We host events for Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Fourth of July. We also host our annual Bourbon, Bacon and Brew festival in September.

Can I bring my own firewood to the campground?

We do not allow outside firewood, as it may carry a variety of non-native insects to our woods. The Department of Natural Resources warns against transporting these pests, as they may severely damage and kill our trees. Local firewood is available to buy at our camp store for $5 per bundle of 8-10 piece.

How do I apply my Black Friday coupon or gift certificate to my order when reserving online?

Our reservation system always requires a deposit equal to the first night's stay, charged at time of booking. Even if your coupon covers your entire stay, the deposit will be taken out. Your coupon or voucher will be applied at check-in, and the amount of your deposit will be placed on your account as a credit. This credit is fully refundable at check-out if you don't use it during your stay for coffee, wood, or ice.

I'm arriving after office hours, is it possible to get a late check-in?

You can check in anytime after 2pm. If you arrive after the office is closed, your map will be taped to the front door of the office, as well as a reminder to come settle up with us in the morning.

On busier weekends, we will call you about an hour before we close to ask if you need wood delivered to your site, and to fill you in on our late check-in procedure.

I went back to change something on my reservation and it deleted everything. When I tried to re-book, it says the site is not available. What should I do?

Hitting the "back" button on your browser resets your reservation. Because you had previously "locked" the site of your choice while making the reservation, our system locks out that site for about 2 hours to give you more than enough time to complete your reservation. The site will remain locked for 2 hours, but don't worry, it will open back up after that time is up. You can try to reserve again after 2 hours, or simply call our office during office hours and we will be happy to complete the reservation for you.
